Potato Casserole with Cheese and Bacon – A Simple Recipe for a Delicious Meal

Ingredients:

1 kg potatoes

200 g smoked bacon

200 g yellow cheese (e.g., cheddar or gouda)

200 ml heavy cream (30%)

2 garlic cloves

1 onion

1 tbsp butter

Salt, pepper, and Provençal herbs to taste  

Instructions:

Prep the Ingredients:

Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly. Dice the bacon and finely chop the onion. Press the garlic through a crusher. Grate the cheese using a coarse grater.

Sauté the Bacon and Onion:

Heat the butter in a skillet and fry the bacon until crispy. Add the onion and garlic, stirring until the onion becomes translucent.

Layer the Ingredients:

In a baking dish, layer the potatoes, bacon with onion and garlic, and grated cheese. Season each layer with salt, pepper, and Provençal herbs.

Add the Cream:

Pour the cream evenly over the layers for a creamy texture. Cover the dish with aluminum foil or a lid.

Bake:

Bake the casserole in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 40 minutes. For the last 10 minutes, remove the foil to allow the cheese on top to brown nicely.  

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the potato casserole hot, garnished with fresh herbs such as chives or parsley. It’s delicious as a standalone dish but also pairs wonderfully with a light side salad.
